Sync & commit
The JSON files under catalog/ are the record. The SQLite database is your working copy: editing a character stages the change there and leaves the files alone. The files only change when you push, and pushing to GitHub is always your call.

What is different
Nothing — the database and the JSON files agree.
Move changes
Push writes the database into the JSON files — this is the only thing that changes the record, and it happens only when you press it. Pull writes the JSON files into the database. Discard throws the database's changes away and restores the files.
Commit to GitHub
This pushes the database into the JSON files first, then commits those files to the repository so your work is safe in GitHub.
